About Us

We live in a 170+-year-old New England farmhouse, as rich in character and history as it is in leaks: out goes the heat, in comes the cold. Or vice versa.

Like a lot of Massachusetts homeowners, we’re only marginally equipped to undertake home repair and retrofit projects that will improve energy efficiency. Motivated by rapidly rising energy costs, however, our quest for the how-to and what-with information of energy savings and environmental sustainability led to the launch of GreenRetros.

The information provided here is intended to help homeowners and small business owners tackle projects—sometimes with and sometimes without expert help—that yield cost and energy savings and enhance the comfort of their homes while lessening their impact on the environment.

Most of the projects we undertake remain within the means of average homeowners and small business owners. Old-Yankee penny-pinching drives the choices we make about what to do and what to use. The projects aren’t novelties or high-end renovations for the rich (although those are ok if you’re rich), but rather improvements that can be made for the most part without the need for a second mortgage.

George and Geralyn Miller are lifelong New Englanders well accustomed to weather-related discomfort—both physical and financial. They met while working in the field of business-to-business publishing and remain actively engaged in professional editorial and graphic design pursuits, respectively.

Our mission…
GreenRetros helps newsletter readers and web site visitors become educated consumers and users of environmentally sustainable products and services intended for existing homes and small commercial buildings.

Our vision…
Residents of the Northeast United States face unstable and rising energy costs in a highly variable weather environment. Most want to keep costs in check while maintaining some level of comfort, and at the same time lessen their impact on the environment. This web site and companion e-newsletter will help you investigate and undertake projects to improve the energy efficiency of your home or business with an eye toward both environmental sustainability and economy.
