The online Post Chronicle notes as we have that, unfortunately, the topic of energy efficiency is “a little boring” in comparison with such sustainable energy topics as solar, wind, geothermal and tidal power. The author nonetheless advocates taking “small, sustainable steps” to save electricity. Sure, you think you’ve seen the list (or one similar to it) a hundred times. But this one is compiled by the founder of online retailer GreenPoma and focuses on products for the gadget-minded. The first product is the ecobutton, a device from the Second is the Lightwedge, an LED device that you can use for reading in bed, rather than lighting the whole room. Pricing starts at $25. Third is the commonly cited use of a powerstrip for electronic devices. Turn off the strip’s switch when you’re done watching TV and you eliminate its use of “vampire power” when the unit is turned off but still plugged in. Fourth is a lamp-friendly dimmer, for downshifting light power when full throttle is unnecessary. Finally, use 23-watt eco-friendly light bulbs. |
