A holiday lighting energy calculator lets you compare options: LED strings, icicle lights, and the traditional larger lights. Calculations are based on the electric rates currently in force at the calculator’s creator, Dominion Virginia Power: 10.923 cents per kilowatt-hour. The bottom-line differences among lighting types can be dramatic. Homeowners making the break from traditional colored bulbs to new LED lighting, for example, can expect a drop in their monthly electric bill to $1.01 for the required 0.3 kilowatt-hour per day, down from $25.34 for 7.5 kilowatt-hours per day.  |
